Decision Point
One of the comments we hear the most from our guests and those who are still working through the decision process is, "You want me to walk up in front of everyone and do what?" Traditionally, the only time for someone who wants to accept Christ or join the church is during the "invitation song" at the end of the service. We have concluded that this might not be the most effective approach. We are adding two more opportunities on Sunday that we believe will open the door for more people to respond to Jesus. Following every service, our Decision Counselors and Pastors will be available in the sanctuary to help people through the decision process. In addition, we are setting up a centralized connection counter in the lobby called Decision Point where people can ask questions about membership, baptism, or request prayer. Our goal is to offer as many points of contact possible for anyone looking to make a decision for the Lord.
It's good to be reminded that the idea of having someone walk down the aisle in front of a bunch of strangers during a song is not the only way to connect with Jesus. A new tradition that we want to create at South Telegraph is the understanding that the invitation is always open and that we are always ready for people to respond. This means we might not always sing a three minute invitation song and ask people to respond by walking down to the front. It also doesn't mean we won't. We will be communicating from the stage how to make a decision and where to go to have your questions answered on a regular basis.
